35th Conference of Civil Law Notaries // 24–25 April 2025 // Salzburg

COMPETITIVE EUROPE – DIALOGUE BETWEEN ECONOMICS AND LAW

The value of legal certainty for Europe's competitiveness

The main theme of the meeting is „COMPETITIVE EUROPE – DIALOGUE BETWEEN ECONOMICS AND LAW. The value of legal certainty for Europe’s competitiveness“

What is the contribution of a modern legal system to the economy? What role does legal certainty play and how can and should notaries contribute to promoting business and easing the workload of the judiciary against this backdrop? What challenges must notaries live up to in order to achieve this aim?

In his much-noted report on EU competitiveness, former ECB President Mario Draghi sounded a warning that the European Union was in danger of falling behind compared to other global economic players (particularly China and the USA). Against this backdrop, both Mario Draghi and former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta presented numerous proposals for making the European economy more dynamic, which were also taken up in Ursula von der Leyen‘s Political Guidelines for the European Commission 2024-2029.

What concrete measures need to follow and be implemented? What role should the rule of law and the efficiency of the legal and judicial systems play? What should the much-cited 28th regime include and what could it actually achieve?

We expect high-ranking speakers from the European Commission, the European Parliament and eminent international and national experts from legal and corporate practice as well as academia to attend.
